What TopRated publishes
TopRated NZ publishes city pages, category pages, business listing pages, and editorial comparison guides designed to help people shortlist local businesses faster. Some pages are directory-style pages that group businesses by location and category. Others are editorial guides that explain differences between providers, service types, or buyer fits.
City hubs
High-level pages that help people browse city, category, and nationwide options.
Category pages
Pages that group businesses under sectors like trades, services, hospitality, and cuisine.
Editorial guides
Buyer-focused pages that compare providers by fit, delivery style, and commercial context.
How businesses get onto the site
Businesses can appear on TopRated through direct research, editorial selection, public-source reviews, or business-submitted listing requests. A submission does not guarantee publication, placement, or ranking. We may review categories for completeness and add businesses without waiting for a submission.
- A business is identified through category research or a listing request.
- Basic business information is checked against public-facing sources where possible.
- The business is matched to a relevant city, category, and page.
- The page is updated when it improves usefulness for readers and fits our category scope.
How updates happen
TopRated updates pages when new businesses are added, existing details change, a category improves with more coverage, or editorial content needs correction. Some pages are generated from structured data, while some buyer guides are manually curated to reflect a specific shortlist or recommendation format.
How TopRated keeps trust and commercial activity separate
TopRated may receive listing requests, commercial enquiries, or advertising interest from businesses, but editorial inclusion and ranking decisions are handled separately from those conversations. A business paying for exposure does not automatically become top-ranked in a guide or receive a more favourable editorial position.
- Paid activity is handled under a separate advertising and listing policy.
- Editorial pages are written for reader usefulness first.
- Corrections and factual updates can be requested regardless of whether a business advertises.
