About TopRated NZ
Local business listings and practical comparison guides for New Zealand
Our Purpose
TopRated NZ helps people move from a broad local search to a more useful shortlist. We organise businesses by city and customer need, then add practical context about what to compare before choosing. Coverage includes restaurants and cafes, accommodation and nightlife, trades, automotive businesses, and professional or household services.
How TopRated Works
City-First Organisation
Category hubs lead to focused local pages built around a specific decision.
Practical Research
We use public business information, business websites, and clearly identified owner-supplied details.
Decision Support
Guides explain comparison criteria, questions to ask, and details to verify directly.
Directory Pages and Editorial Guides
TopRated contains two main page types. Structured directory pages present current listings from the site’s business records. Editorial guides may take a stronger view of buyer fit, local relevance, service differences, or the practical question a reader is trying to answer. A position on one page is not a universal claim that a business is best for every customer.
Read the review and ranking methodology for the factors we may consider, and the editorial policy for more detail about sourcing, writing, and updates.
What Readers Can Expect
- Clear category fit: listings should belong naturally on the city and category page where they appear.
- Useful comparison context: guides focus on scope, local relevance, process, price clarity, and other factors that can change a real decision.
- Transparent commercial treatment: featured or promotional placements are labelled and do not automatically control editorial ranking.
- A correction path: business owners and readers can report outdated facts, wrong links, incorrect assets, or category errors.
Updates, Corrections, and Business Submissions
Business details change. Dates shown on guide pages indicate when the page content was last refreshed, but prices, hours, availability, staff, services, and booking terms should still be confirmed with the business. If something is factually wrong, use the corrections policy to see what evidence to provide.
Businesses can request consideration for a listing. A submission is reviewed for location, category fit, clarity, and usefulness; it does not guarantee publication or a particular rank. The business listing guidelines explain what to send, while the advertising and listing policy explains the boundary between commercial activity and editorial treatment.
